They haven't always been known as Royal Marines. In 1664 they were the Duke Of Albany's Maritime Regiment of Foot and were and Army regiment, hence much of the dress uniform. Since then they have gone through massive changes in name, service and duty. They weren't commandos until WWII.

regiments no, brigades yes ;) reply to hurriane88 - they wernt they have always been known as the royal marines, they were slanged as the admirals regiment. because it was a brigade of men that were created, to protect the admiral and other high ranking maritime officers

It says in the Recuitment thing (altho you probably know better) that its a branch, btu it doesn't really matter...

its a coprs, like the raf regiment is a corps, but yes it is part of the royal navy.

Actually it's a Branch of the Royal Navy. Like the Warfare Branch or the Submarien Branch theres the Royal MArien Commando branch

its a corps.:) was called the admariles regiment on its formation but then they became known as the corps of marines (soldiers who fight from ships) , then at gebralter they became royal marines. :)
