I think Tavis is one of the best interviewers out there. I love how he asks guests to clarify things if they give a vague answer. This is, to me, by far the best Labelle interview thus far. Nona, Patti and Sarah look great too!

Hey my fellow Patti LaBelle fans. This past weekend I saw Patti, and sister tore it up. I love to hear them sing, Sarah, Nona, and Patti are a force to be reckoned with. All of these women are over 60, and sing rings around most of these newcomers. That must have been something to be up and close with a legendary talented woman like Nona. I saw them at Splash last month and got their autographed though it was hard to speak to them because of the last minute changing of the promoter, but I'm blessed to have gotten their autograph. Lots of girls who want to be singers need to check out this clip. Thanks for adding your 2 cents. It was worth it.

(Adding my 2 cents) I saw Nona at a songwriters conference in Brooklyn a few years ago, and had the pleasure of seeing her perform while playing the piano. She sounded so good I wasnted to jumpup and scream, but it was not the forum for that. talked with her at length afterwards and she was just as gracious as ever. Oh, might I add, and also built like a 24 year old woman. Simply fine!

They KILLED it! Patti at the end when she said "break it down now!" and started to dance cracked me up! Despite the fact she's 63 years old, she's still young at heart. I love the Philly Soul sound to this song, I thought Gamble and Huff produced this one, but found out it was by Lenny Kravitz! Incredible!

I saw Nona when she performed at Showtime At The Apollo in 1987 and performed Why Sould I Cry and Winds of Change and I was impressed with her vocals. When I later learned she wrote alot of the group's material, I was impressed and shocked that she didn't get as much accolades as she deserved.

You know back in the 80's I was in college, I would play the "Nona" album for all my friends and virtually every single one went out and bought it. I am talking mostly white kids too. I recall talking to one of Nona's reps at the time and he was stunned that white people liked the record. Then I went to see Nona play the Cave Club in Buffalo and the place was a mob scene--completely sold out. It was almost a completely white crowd.I think had that album been marketed better...

I was watching an interview with Patti on Video Soul in 1994 and she told Donnie Simpson that she wanted Nona and Sarah to have the level of success they had and the reason why it was hard for Nona was because she's a fierce and great songwriter that radio and companies didn't know how to market her. I saw Nona live in 1987 when I was 16 and she turned the Apollo out.

I would love to see Missy Elliot take some of Nona's classic songs---songs like "Messing With My Mind,""Keep It Confidential," "B-Boys," "Somebody Somewhere"--and completely remix them and give them the Missy treatment. Maybe re-record them--using the three voices in an updated, lighter way. Lots of acapella breaks like EnVogue used to do. I don't know why but I really think Missy is the producer for them.

That's not so strange really. Everyone knows Patti has always had a major fan base of gays, transgenders. And also that Donnie himself had battled homosexual "tendencies" as it's called in an interview. But Patti is not on either side. She just accepts people for who they are and encourages them to "be yourself". She always stated "I'm not a gay woman...but I'm just a woman who loves people."

That's why I love Patti, because she's honest..Sometimes to a FAULT, but at 5:27 when they speak of FANTASIA, it's so true! Fantasia will struggle just as hard as Patti and they rest of those legends have because she's a dark skinned black girl! It was the first interview that I can recall with ALL of them answering their own questions and it was so informative; especially the questions he asked, where it concerned their own personal opinions about the R/B scene, today. A friend in Greece is a huge Dion fan. Dion sings in French while in Europe. I hyperlinked Patti LaBelle's version of "If You Asked Me To," along w/ Dion's. I asked my friend to compare performances. The next morning, I get an e-mail from Greece which read simply, "The Song belongs to Patti LaBelle." That was a cool cultural exchange, she sent me downloads of Dion singing in French which I'd never heard, and she got to know the wonderful singing of Patti LaBelle. Peace~~~

Man why do these old programs NOT MAKE THIS STUFF AVAILABLE?!! God almighty it really sucks that these performances are rotting in a vault somewhere. About time about time, they still have it. There is no other singers that can sing with Patti but Nona and Sarah they all tried and it was cute but Sarah and Nona hang tight with Patti. I remember all the free concerts my mother and aunt used to take us at central park and Apollo theater even as a young boy at 7 I knew good music and have waited a long time since there last album Chamleon and thank god we all here to here them again.
