Wow. She's a quiet bus. And sounds like a good runner too. Though I'm lazy and would prefer an Allison.

Do the research man! Carpenter bought Crown in the '90s and rebranded the Carpenter school bus bodies to Crown until they finally died in '00. It's too bad, cuz now we only have 3 manufacturers left!

I miss Ford not building chassis for school buses anymore. It's boring seeing everything now being IC and Thomas. I don't see new Blue Bird buses around here.

That is a Carpenter school bus, they changed the name to Crown in the late 1996, I drive the school bus for the school district since 1990, they used to get Carpenter buses until Carpenter & Crown buses Industries went out of the business in the year 2000.

what brand is the bus?
By: buddyboi1979. on 18 Mar 08, 22:55:54
I am the owner of the bus. It is a Carpenter plain and simple. The Crown name didn't come along until 1996. Even then the Crowns were still Carpenters

I once rode on a Carpenter product and yes it was the coach with a Ford engine. Special School District of St. Louis County, Missouri were repeat customers of Carpenter budy works and the Ford Motor Company.

For those who don't know about shifting the school buses, the first gear is classified as a deep under gear for climbing steep hills. If you have 4 speeds in the box, you really have only 3 that are truly usable.

Gotcha,
By: MMMMMDIESEL. on 12 Feb 08, 04:57:43
its not registered as a school bus. its considered an RV. and if it 16000lb or more here in Illinois you need a class c license.
By: Righty736. on 12 Feb 08, 03:35:41
Looks like I have a second comment ... You can drive busses without the license? That's pretty cool ... I like driving bigger vehicles.
