I'm gonna check it out very soon, I think you might be right though (I'll get back to you on this) ... what a stupid system ... If I knew what I know now back in '81, I'd have never bought such a beast ... thanks for the enlightenment on this ... 3 screws to affix a neck ... retarded! I feel retarded because this never occurred to me until you brought it up. I just played the thing. Thanks again. And thanks for explaining the micro tilt concept. Appreciate it.

On the underside of your neck should be the maker's initials and a little sticker, I can't make mine out anymore but it's worth a look anyway. I can't believe your neck hasn't moved on you. Take a look at the the distance between the edge of the neck to the E string, then the G string. That's the test, on mine the G is slightly closer because the weight of the neck makes is sag due to having just 3 screws.

Yeah, I bought mine in Seoul Korea and had to take it home to NZ in a backpack! The main screw (by the tilt) is actually a bolt that screws into this weird metal plate that's just fixed in the body. The tilt is just an allen bolt that provides a spacing, it makes contact with this metal plate. You'd have to loosen all the screws, set the allen bolt to where you want it then tighten it all up again. I tried it once. Good idea but not very practical.

Hi, I've never touched the tilt ... I've heard it's best not to play with it, but I really have no idea. Mine has 3 screws too, but I've never noticed the neck moving ... you're right, this bass weighs a ton. I've been considering changing the neck for a fretless neck with an ebony board. Have you ever taken the neck off to take a look at this micro tilt system? I'm wondering what's up with that! If I did change the neck, the plate is useless of course. Wonder what else is diff under there?

Greetings. I have a 78 jazz with microtilt and it sucks to the max. I've only tried the tilt thing once, but the neck is only attached to the body with 3 screws instead of the standard 4 and I have to tighten them up about every 6 months. After a few gigs the neck starts sagging down. This was a major design fault in the late 70's, but yours is an 81? Does it have 3 or 4 screws? Apart from that my bass is tip top, awesome tone and heavy as hell too.

Hey, dunno if I ever had any issues, I discussed it briefly here with another youtuber when he asked me if my bass had one and basically came to the conclusion to just leave it alone! I've never touched mine in the whole time I've had this bass. Kind of a strange idea if you ask me, but I dunno, maybe it's a good system??

Thanks. I've got a Fender 70's replica Jazz bass. It's probably my strings, haven't changed them in a while.

Hey, I was just playing through my old peavey solid state amp, no effect other than my EQ set to a frown ... (upside down smile) as I always set it ... I have dimarzio replacement pups in this bass ... added them in the early 80's as I hated the stock fender pickups ... they were dead with no growl IMO.

I love that bass tone classic slap sound how do I get that sound with the EQ? Do I need to run it through a tube?
