If you will look on the underside of the jet mode, you will see three sets of wheels, two on his shoulder pieces and one on his lower torso. The configuration of the wheels or landing gear clearly shows that the jet is in fact conical in shape. Seriously, the one in the front and two in the back configuration is typical among any kind of flying vehicle, even amongst Transformers.
Further proof is found in the direction of the fusion cannon.
