excellent advice. it IS in the hands but you cant totally take away from having the right setup also. the right axe/amp setup makes a world of difference

He says he was useing the neck pick up in the intro that " HE WROTE " sounded like really bad version of Cold Shot to me .

For the record, the first 3:18 of this video is probably the best advice you could give a guiatar player, especially starting ones. Tone is in your hands, and gear only sounds as good as you make it. As for influence, he's on the money. Good stuff thanks man.

Music Unlimited in Kingston MA is awesome

Great stuff!! Just one note though. SRV would use heavy gauge strings (12,13s) but he would tune his ax down a half step to relieve neck tension and make action more manageable. Awesome stuff nonetheless. Rock on!!!

Daddy's Junky Music in Shrewsbury, Ma has Medium and Heavy Strings , and get this unlike the nerds that work at Guitar Center , the salespeople there actually know what they are talking about.

Too much talk and not enuff action, no pun intended. Keep the gab to a minimum, but thanks for taking the time to post this.

clapton used 9's (random comment) does anyone kno a good guitar stores in ma? the one i go to does not carry anything higher than a 10
By: JimiRayYng. on 10 Jul 08, 08:54:47
Spent years using 9's, but switched to 11's for all my strats a few months back, much better control, was rough at first but hey no pain no gain. I have to tune eb though. Still use 9's on my les paul and feels like shit. would love to get rid of the LP but the guys in th eband prefer the sound for the rock stuff. If it was up to beit would be strats and 11's all the way. Gues I should leave th eband in a huff and start a new one ..LOL ut hey it helps pay the bills.

I started with Boomers but , switched to D'Addario super light gauge. Play what you want.Boomers just ate the crap out of my fingers. Thick strings, whew!

Try Elites. Great tone, and long lasting.

when you put crazy glue on your fingers would that not dick with the strings or the neck? j/w

Yes, SRV used, for the most part, 13's, but would switch up to 12's and 11's when he was touring heavy (meaning, multipe nights in a row). But always recorded with 13's.

Boomers wear out too damn fast though. It takes 2 days of moderate playing and they have that annoying dead sound. And I play with 12's too.

man i recomend you go for 10's and buy a fingers excerciser the you can go to 11's id you feel good for it
