Horses for courses. I personally prefer Mercedes-AMG, but the BMW M cars are very good also. Torque counts for a lot more than most people think. When you floor the throttle, it is the torque produced by the engine (the force) that slingshots you forwards.

i own a e55 amg, and i had an m5, i can say from my own experience that the e55 is 5 times more fun 2 drive, shit on a car that does all the work it self. With the tourk that e55 has u can be the king of drifting. Anyway if u compare 2007 models then the e63 fucks the m5 anyhow, handling speed etc.

It's Alpina, not alpine. And the alpina is made from the E60 550i, so it has an V8 engine, against the M5's 5-liter V10 with 507ps. Alpina is known for making detuned versions from the m-division cars, and tuned versions from the normal ones.
