Who cares if a bunch of people neg the comments? Yeah, it's kind of silly, but it doesn't bother me. I can still read the comments and if it makes them feel better about themselves, good for them. I do prefer comments that people thought out instead of just writing some insult like "Screw Stanford" or "lol" which is useless and makes the person look like they couldn't come up with anything better. Your comments show that you can put thoughts together and that's what's good about this stuff.

Yes, there was no instant replay in '82 and that's fortunate for Cal. I think that today's refs would have called the play dead back at midfield and given the win to Stanford. The camera work is better now and there would have been a clearer shot for replay. I agree that the stupid band made it more difficult for the refs to see that the last lateral went forward. If the refs had ruled the ball down at midfield, there wouldn't have been a penalty/TD for Cal since the game would have been over.

Ruling the player down wasn't the easiest play either. That's not my point though, my point is that you don't see people with -25 points for commenting "lol" or "that was a great series" on videos of the Bill Buckner error.

You say this after probably re-watching the play quite a few times. What you need to realize is that: 1. Ref's didn't have instant replay back then. 2. There was a whole lot of confusion during the play. Not only would it be extremely difficult for a ref to correctly call the lateral with everything else going on around them, but by then Standford had had interference (band and players going on the field) and according to the rules of the time that would have been a TD granted to Cal

I think that if you look at the play closely and without school allegiance clouding things, it appears to me that Garner's knee touched the ground before he lateraled the ball. I don't know if it would be overturned by replay, but the refs probably should have ruled him down and the play dead. However, even if he wasn't ruled down, the final lateral from Ford to Moen definitely appears to have traveled forward. He may have thrown it to the side, but his momentum carried it forward about a yard.

How did the ref's blow the call? When you have so many comments getting -25 for people saying "wooo that was awesome", you have to wonder what kind of manchild get's angry over some game that happened over 20 years ago. I could care less about the negging, I just find it very pathetic.

I doubt that the negging is only from Stanford fans. Even though I support Cal, I believe that the refs blew the call on the play and I know many people who don't care for either school who think that Stanford got screwed. Either way, you make yourself look stupid by calling people who do something you don't like "faggots". That's something a child does. You need to grow up and think before you post a comment.
