I love this movie!!! howl's voice it really sexy!! but has anybody read the book? it's nothing like the movie!! it makes me sad, i really thought that the movie was better than the book! and than doesn't happen much! like the scene were howl burns the paper, or were he turns into that bird thing, or were she turned young again! what a let down! and no balcony scene either! that was my favorite one! :(

I watched it for the first time when it was on BBC the other week, and i'd say it is certainly the best Studio Ghibli movie yet. I mean, i love 'Spirited Away', 'Princess Monoke' (bad spelling, sorry) and 'My Neighbour Totoro', but by the end of watching it, i felt absolutely amazing and so refreshed. Wonderful movie.

Howl was a wizard who supposedly captured young women's hearts (as in "fell in love" with them). Sophie is the only girl to ever enter Howl's heart because Howl is courageous about letting his true love (in this case, Sophie) enter his heart. In the part where Howl is shown as a boy, he is seen holding Calcifer in his hand. Sophie sees that Howl's problem was that he had lost his soul, losing the ability to love. Howl then realizes that Sophie would be the one woman he would hold his heart for.

I just finished reading "The Glass Castle" last night. It was recommended to me by my niece who is in college. Wow... and amazing memoir. Really makes you think and appreciate things. This and Frank McCourt's Memoir "Angela's Ashes" are hands-down the best I've ever read. Some find these depressing, but I feel that they're hopeful and empowering. Once you read either, you cannot forget them. I wish she'd give us an update on her siblings and I would love it if I could see a depiction of the house on Little Hobart Street. Maybe her mom has painted it.

As I was reading the book, I felt extremely angry at Jeanettes father for making his family victim of his irresponsible stupidity and not holding a steady job; I was extremely angry at her mother for living in a made-up world; I was angry that she put her kids through that life. I definitely felt she must be one of the worst mothers. Even when she got the inherited house in Phoenix, she couldn't make it a warm home for the family. I am amazed Jeanette has no anger towards her parents!

according to the painting, rex walls is exactly how i pictured him to look. but i pictured her mom as a brunette for some reason. i finished this book today on the bus and actually cried. real tears. i don't know if i was sad from it being over or happy that another person kept herself from being a statistic in the world. the story is brave and charming, never self-pitying and truly a brilliant work of art.
