Repost. Actually, this is the collision between the Maersk Hollyhead (sister ship of my previous vessel Maersk Humber) and a Bulk carrier. It is a common myth that it was steering gear failure, what actually happened is the vessel was navigating in a narrow channel, I know it looks like open water but remember there is alot of ship underwater too and the vessel only had a narrow channel of water at sufficient depth in which to navigate, what happened is something called interaction.

The red ship was ancohr in the harbor. the blue ship was moving. You can see the ancohr on the blue ship coming down in one pic and in another you can see the chain holdind the blue ship. Last pic of the red ship shows that it was ancohred. There is no wake coming from the red ship but you can see the wake from the blue ship.

I remember watching this on the Science Channel. I think the Japanese made it. Also you guys do have to realize that they also think that this happened about 9-15 times in the formation of earth, and they think that that is how the Moon formed. The enormous pressure inside of that cloud of vaporized rock (about 10^20 kilograms or 1/10000 the mass of the Earth) would probably make it expand in a supersonic manner, since this is gas and not liquid. The height of the cloud would be hundreds of kilometres, incresing pressure even more at the bottom of the cloud. For comparison, a 10km deep sea would accelerate at twice the speed of sound if its surroundings were to be removed suddenly.

this meteor is more than 200km wide... do you even realize how large that is? the other ones that struck earth (chicxulub, vredefort, wilkes crater, largest craters on earth) were about 10000 times smaller than this or about 10km in diameter (except for wilkes crater which actually could approach this meteor short of a few orders of a magnitude, but still way smaller and also moving slower).

This video isn't "rubbish," because it isn't a prediction of any near-future event. It's merely a simulation designed to show what would happen if we were struck by a large asteroid. And, since such rocks are floating about in space, it's possible (And very likely) that it will happen again one day in the earth's lifespan. A few years back, a large comet struck Jupiter. This is just rubbish. How would anyone know a 312.5 mile wide meteor would strike the earth? There is no chance. I am so sorry but i don't believe anyone who tells prophecies which aren't becoming true in our days. A meteor that size may strike us, but as my opinion i do not think it will strike in 2012, either in 2029, 2036 or 2880. There is a very little chance. Actually, the rack did drop with the bomb. You can see it in the video. As someone who has flown with an F/A-18 weapons separation test pilot, trust me, Dszlos is correct. They flew close to get good footage of weapons separation. In fact, aircraft produce a wake like a boat. If you fly close formation you can feel the other aircraft pushing on you. It doesn't suck them together.
