Sorry, this may be a dumb question, but was that binary star we pass the Rigel Kentaurus system?

Wow.. That was awsome! I have to see this movie!

This scene makes the God of organized religions such as Christianity and Islam so small and insignificant. The cosmos is far more beautiful than any theologian could ever imagine. I wish people would lift their eyes from their bibles and korans and realize you don't need religion to appreciate the beauty of the universe and find your own meaning in its vastness.

I will forever be sad that Carl Sagan didn't live to see his own movie.

I think we need to broadcast the Rick Roll'd song from our most powerful transmitters.

Actually scientist now say the Earth is located on the inner side of the Orion Spur which is in between the Perseus arm of the Milky Way and the Scutum Centaurus arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. Thats about 25,000 light years from the galactic center and 22,000 light years from the Galatic edge. We are closer to the middle then previously thought.

this scene is a great scene!!!

I see an error; when they displayed where our solar system fit inside the milky way _2:22_ they made us to close to the center, which Carl Sagan himself would have pointed out. The truth is that we are more on the galactic rim where new stars are forming. When they panned out did they show the milky way and andromeda being inside of one galaxy(which is wrong) or did they merely go through a third. But this movie is still AWESOME!

I remember being blown away with the intro to the movie. I'm so glad I saw this at a movie theatre. Great film.

We all live in Jodie Foster's eye.

One of the great movie intros! Just mindboggling how large the universe is. All nitpicking aside about where the radio signals are playing throughout the intro the one real issue I had was that if one were to chart a linear course (or even a mildly curved course) to the Eagle Nebula one would go nowhere near Vega. Would that they could have passed through the Ring Nebula though, that's roughly in line with Vega and would have looked pretty cool. Still Eagle Nebula is awesome.

Personally I love the movie as an indicator of dangers accompanied by religion and how stupid it is in retrospect

Such a wonderful intro! Reminds us how small we and our problems are...

I just finished watching this movie moments ago (after hearing something about it in a David Wilcock video- THE 2012 ENIGMA), and I'm still practically in tears from it! I remember having a dream EXACTLY like this opening scene, the day before I went to Bonnaroo last year (a large music festival held yearly in Manchester, TN - about 20 miles from my house). And the scene later where Jodie takes her "mystical flight" - It seemed to touch on some awesome memory that I can't even put to words...

Good points, and I'm sure most have noticed the errors as well, but like all science fiction, there is always a "backdoor explanation." If all else fails, a little hand-wavium solves everything. 1. They needed to fit a good portion of our solar system for viewer-recognition within 3 minutes somehow I guess. They could have sped up zoom-out speed, but it may not have flowed smoothly. 2. Whos to say these aren't replayed recordings? ;) I don't know why other people are bashing on your comment.

I have detected one other major problem that was, until now, undiscovered by anyone else... Here it is: Shut up you dick head, this was just the beggining of a Sci-Fi movie, you moronic idiot. It was never represented as "actual footage" taken by some fantastic "Carl Sagan" machine that we must now all interpret... The shot is awesome, and who are you to tell us why you think some items are "out of place"? With all it's imperfections, the shot is perfect. Let's see you do better...
