Baker and Bruce were more than able sidemen, Baker's drumming style fits perfectly in the power trio line-up and the bass line Kicksass...few bass lines are more memorable in the history of rock and roll. And about your business man comment, let me tell you this: He auctioned off his most precious guitars ( worth over 3 million $) to charity and most of his profits go towards his crossroads rehab center. Eric Clapton was sick with the flu when they recorded this, but when snaps into that solo, man it's amazing. If I didn't already play the guitar, this solo'd make me want to play.
Also, I hadn't noticed how much Clapton's voice had inproved since the 60's, but it's an amazing Change.

It was not about a mental institution, it was (sort of) about a train station. It was written by Jack Bruce (bass player) and Pete Brown (a poet who was the song-writer for Cream behind the scenes). Jack supposedly wrote the guitar chops, and Pete wrote colorful phrases around the theme of waiting at a train station (obviously) while tripping on drugs (it was the 60's afterall). I think it is Eric's best solo for Cream, and probably for his entire career. But that's just my opinion.

Eric Clapton's soloing during the entire farewell concert is just amazing. I know he is not God, but maybe just for this show God jumped in his body and played. The mastery and intensity he played with at this show for as great as he is you'd be hard pressed to find tape where he matched this performance !

Remember this era well, slim with long hair, cool time ,cool band and cool music. Now, i'm a couple of pounds heavier, lost a lot of that long hair and as for the music today....well! The good part is, i'm still listening to great guitarists, mostly from yesteryear. When i look in the mirror i can't see the bald patch on the back of my head and although i'm not cool, i still think i am. Rock on brothers and sisters!

Nah, imo Mike Bloomfield was a better guitarist than clapton as far as outright skill goes, at that time of course. And of all time, Jimmy page is far better as a studio guitarist. Clapton was a monster live, and especially in the improvisation department. Although, Hendrix was incredible live, i feel alot of his guitar skill and global recognition of it, is lent to his on stage performance. Brilliant guitarist, but apart from showmanship, far from the 'best'
