The first number in a time signature represents the count, so how many beats in one bar. So 4/4 means there is 4 beats, 6/8 has 6 beats etc. That is probably all that beginners what need to know. you can check wiki to find out more details on time signatures.

derbuk-what? it's called a tubla. Amir's Egyptian and he's teahcing you Egyptian style tubla. You can get tublas from most middle eastern stores. And from Egypt where of course you can pick them up for very cheap, $10 for a reasonably good one for example.

In comparision to the "famous" drummers, absolutely! Souhail is much better than Amir, ego and all. Amir is a very weak player. He could be a great teacher, I wouldn't know. My favorite Arabic style drummers are Faisal, Gamal, and Said. With music, Said is a master. NO ONE tops him. Others who are good; Amir Sofi, Farouk, Souhail, Suleiman. Who are your favorites?

This comparision isn't legitimate because both drummers play very different styles and use varying techniques. Comparing Souhail to a great Arabic style player, like Faisal for example, is more appropriate.

Yes it is medical tape. A local drug store, or large grocery store such as Walmart should have it. It is normaly in the isle where all the bandages is. Personaly I think the brown athletic tape is better however. It is about a dollar more, but it is flexible so it moves naturaly with your skin and is not affected as much by the sweat. It does help a lot, and it is more for prevention as you play over the years. Will

Thank you for your kindness! To God be the glory! The congas tuning are really about your preference in sound. I like to tune the smaller head so that it will have a nice "pop" to it on the slap. They should be tuned an octave apart. It is important that the sounds complement each other. If you are playing with two congas, let one be tuned nice and low to give you a good bass. This bass will help lock in the melody and give you a good groove. I will write more specificaly on this later

What? His beladi (actually the correct name is Masmoudi Saghir) is fine. You can ornament with a tk or a double ka as you do, or a left hand roll before each tk: D D~ tk T D~ tk T~ tk. Or you can play your tk twice as fast making it a tktk or you can fill the whole thing in for a measure or two: Dk Dk tk Tk Dk tk Tk tk.

Yeah, i've been practicing strengthening my left hand lately, and turkish rolls, which are crazy hard to get good at. I learned to percussion in high school which doesn't teach hand drumming. And i am obviously right hand dominate. Question though, which hand are you talking about having tense fingers and which part? I generally try to stay relaxed.
