The conductor is ahead of the beat when he conducts - this is not uncommon, although I agree it can be disorientating to watch! The basic idea is that if you conduct exactly on the beat, the tempo inevitably drags. Hence, professional conductors tend to conduct slightly ahead of the beat.

One thing that I love to do is listen to certain parts of my New World Symphony CD while I'm driving around the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs; it feels like I'm in a Western, riding through Monument Valley with John Wayne! That's what I hear every time I listen to this symphony - the Old West, cowboys, cattle drives, dusty trails, mountains, etc. This is truly the first "American" symphony.

I don't feel there's anything truely Irish about this performance. It comes across as being very counterfit. Irish music always had a connection to the people this seems very detatched and staged. Give me a genuine bard who believes in the music he sings (like Luke Kelly) As ooposed to these guys who seem to have wandered into theater by accident and so they had to perform a broadway musical.

I was lucky to be at the Helix show in Dublin with my two sisters and we were fighting over which one of us Darren kept winking at. He is such a cute guy. My cousin said she saw him with Boyzone at the Royal Albert Hall in 1997 and didn't believe us when we told her he was still a stud. She was kicking herself for not getting a ticket!!!!!

Saw him with Helmet in Melbourne, Aus in '92 and then when he played with an Aussie band Mark of Cain as their drummer at Melbourne Showgrounds at Easter '96 I think. God Moving Over The Face Of The Water by Moby also features later on.
