Most cops are rough guys not afraid to do a bit of mischief. Aas long as you show them the proper respect they will honor your rerquest. - provided you get your point across in the proper manner. Respect means a lot of things. Placing your hands on the wheel, overhead light on takes away the tension of a traffic stop and right away you are ahead of the game. The stereo is turned off, your attitude is pleasant, you don't try a tired old bullshit line he's heard a million time. etc

This video is designed to win in court not win the police encounter. If you clearly articulate you do not consent to a search it WILL be thrown out of court. Of course you will not get your contraband back. You still have to pay for a lawyer, bail, towing. The best thing is not to carry contraband . This isn't a "bad" representation. It's a possible one. Would it make sense to prepare someone on how to deal with a polite, law-abiding police officer who informs you of your rights? Not really. Would you want to know what to do if you come across a cop like this? Hell yea.

"are on the job to protect and serve the public" That may be the reason most of them join, but it's not the reason most of them go on the streets every day. "dont do anything illeagal and then you have no reason to fear anything" They may think you did something and your alibi wasn't airtight. They might not recall your story with 100% accuracy, and claim you said something you didn't. They might plant evidence or ask trick questions. There is always something to fear when dealing with police.

This video is a bad representation of scenarios. Know your rights, but dont think that all law enforcement encounters are like what is shown in this video. Yes there are some bad officers out there, but most of them are on the job to protect and serve the public. Know your constitutional rights and know the laws in the state you live in. Most of all dont do anything illeagal and then you have no reason to fear anything when you encounter a law enforcment officer.

Fuck that, hes teaching kids how to stand up for themselves in the face of those who would take advantage of their ignorance and abuse the power granted to them by the same people who guaranteed us those rights... Not that it matters though, since most cops won't even ask to search, they just do it anyway if they think you can't afford a lawyer... Even then it's their word against yours, and the judge will believe them over you 99.9% of the time... So I say again- Fuck That!
