i think what he means is that it is not entirely improvised as advertised. it has a theme and chord progression that he obviously did not come up with on the spot. however the extended improvised jams inbetween theme statements are really really impressive and certainly not fake.

I have a good guess as to what this is. Branford mentioned "Friday Night Videos". Therefore, the group playing was essentially NBC's "The Tonight Show Band" from the early 90's. Furthermore, "FNV's", which I didn't know was still on by then, was on NBC, so this must have been a cross-promotion deal where Branford hosted the show and the band played a song. Another hint as to when this video was done is when Branford mentions an upcoming video from Kris Kross. Where are THEY now?

well met. i was going by the sound- i tried to recreate this at home and had an easier time using DADGAD.he uses this tuning quite a bit on his solo albums and so my ear and i just made an assumption,though looking back- an incorrect one! But in all honesty-i think that the rest of us without kevin eubanks sized hands would would do better with the more altered tuning.especially for that groovy suspended 7th chords used throughout! thanks for correcting me but i had my reasons. much love mate

In DADGAD the D Kevin holds for a large part of the piece would be on the 5th fret 2nd string not the 3rd that he holds here - also the A to F# pull off on the 1st string (first time at 0:41) would need to be from 7th to 4th fret, not 5th to 2nd. I've played this tune before... it's a ton of composite sigs, though when I play it I do it the way prog rockers do, and feel the quarter as long as the phrase will allow. Thinking in terms of all those sigs is useful, but my phrasing opened right up when I saw it as blocks of with periodic hiccoughs

Good jazz improvising doesn't rely on patterns, tricks and licks. Most listeners therefore find it too challenging. They need the basic hooks to keep them interested. Once you learn jazz it becomes really hard to listen to straight forward players (rock, blues etc). The jazz player constantly challenges themselves to move forward, and organically, rather than throwing together a bunch of licks they are dying to use. It's digging inside yourself for the truth. It should be rewarding as a player

No I mean the articulations of a bend such as vibrato... Listen to guitarist Stephan Forte, might not be your type of music (symphonic prog metal) but he does more with his bends than I've seen any other guitarist do. I'm not closing off jazz, i've tried liking it and am open to new stuff. It will never be my preference though. when i think of exotic scales i think of hungarian gypsy, harmonic minor and egyptian/japanese, that's the stuff that appeals to me.

I have seen Kevin about a dozen times and every single time his guitar volume is WAY WAY too low. I think what happens is that he doesnt use a compressor so when he really snaps out those bass notes the soundman sets the max level to those, when in actuality he is playing at maybe 50% of that volume for the duration of the show. It's a real bummer live and definitely takes away from the energy of the show. Otherwise everything is AWESOME!!!
