she has that bad wrap leg thing going on with her jumps and she needs a better position on sit spins. her program also lacks in choreography but other than that, i think the audience really enjoyed this because it was refreshingto see especially in this competition where mostly all of the ladies had mistakes. i look forward to seeing her skate again.

Wow! i have to say this. Yukari Nakano is a great, wonderful skater! just gorgeous.. personally the ending with camel spin is the best ever i've seen in every programs. What a program!!

she already shocked everyone last season thanks to her new choreograpy, amazing hard training and her always lovely presentation. but...she's not in the same league as yu-na for technical ability and difficulty. I LOVE this program and really admire nakano's skating, but she can't beat mao or yu-na unless they are very unlucky- and I don't want any skaters to be unlucky.

I'd agree with you if say that she was robbed of a medal by Kostner. But to say that Yuna didn't deserve a medal? Come on. Kostner was sloppy, yes but Kim? She had the best freeskate although she popped her triple lutz. Then what? All her jumnps were right on. Yukari didn't fall or stepped out, but many of her jumps were underrotated including the triple axel. If I were a judge, this is how I would rank them: Mao Asada - Gold Yuna Kim - Silver Yukari Nakano - Bronze

No, her jumps were fine. She was downgraded on the second Flip and shouldn't have been. The Triple Axel was perhaps fair to downgrade but it's a freaking TRIPLE AXEL and the rules with regards to how downgraded jumps are graded are really, really dumb. If a Triple is downgraded you get less points than if you would have simple done a double. Yukari Nakano was robbed and that's all there is to it.

do u know the meaning of 'under rotation'? Her jump isn't acurate at all. Her leg position is really somethin..and she didn't rotate completly on many of her jumps. so she got down graded. i know she did best as she could do but she's not just up to that level sadly.......

Wonderful of figure skating is made to be enjoyed even if it sees in animation. Spectators who stand up one after another from among and applaud by no end of acting. It was connection of acting that you can leak this day. There might be a lot of people who have distrust in the figure judge in having done grading that doesn't reach the medal.

No fair!!! she deserved at least bronze, it wasn't a fair judgment, she gave it her best and i think she was robbed of her medal by Carolina and Kim who were sloppy and had mistakes in their program. Even though shes not a well known skater, Yukuri still deserved at least the bronze. The majority of skaters cant land a triple Axel (for example Sasha Cohen)and still get a medal! Skating is getting too competitive these days......

This new scoring system doesn't give enough credit to well executed elements. I'd much rather see a perfectly executed level 1 spin than a poorly executed level 4 spin. The perfectly executed level 1 spin should score higher than a poorly executed level 4 spin.

Cohen actually WENT for all the Triple jumps. When Witt got nervous or didn't feel comfortable on the takeoff to a jump, she'd often just do a double. Downgrading your content is a mistake too. Who knows how well Witt would have been able to skate in a more demanding era. The fact remains that she usually didn't skate perfect and also didn't have very demanding competition when she won her titles. Would have been interesting to see Denise Biellmann stick around until 1988.

Who cares. She still is in another league from Cohen the splatfest queen. If you want to talk about competition who was Kwan's great competition. Tara was good but she lasted a couple years only. Irina who had horrible artistry, and still beat Kwan whenever she skated clean but in big events always made mistakes. Maria who had weak technical ability and weak artistry and no consistency. Cohen who as I mentioned was the splat queen, had shallow edges, no speed, tiny jumps.

Witt didn't have much competition in her day (at least not any that the judges wanted to grade fairly). FYI, Witt tried to do harder jumps and wasn't consistent with them. In the early 80's she was trying the Triple Flip in her Long Programs, but couldn't do it cleanly, and then later on she scheduled a Triple Loop (which she only managed to do at 1987 Worlds, which is by far her best performance).

I love Witt's technique and artistry both way more then Sasha Cohen. Cohen only did harder jumps since everyone did harder jumps then. If she were around in 88 she wouldnt do any harder jumps then Witt, probably easier. Witt's high technically sound jumps are much better then Cohen's puny flutzing jumps. Cohen may have prettier toepoint and positions but Witt's overall artistry is much better. Anyway Witt is a legend, and Cohen is just a bridesmaid who never won anything that mattered.

Divine skating! This sport to me remains very odd, however; imagine having a running commentary provided to a music or theatrical performance, where the only thing considered is how many "moves" of various kinds are performed!? This strange and very superficial thinking must constitute a tremendous frustration for the real artists of skating. Witt speaks from her soul; that is what matters, here as in all art. i find sasha more inspiring as carmen. katarina's technical content is a joke. true, back then figure skating was not very competitive in terms of technique, but i love sasha's artistry more. witt has way too much breathing time in her program, and i dont personally see her steps and expressive portion that exciting...its so sluggish... i do give her due credit though, for having an amazing dominance on the sport.

Althoug when Mao can jump triple axel and combination in very cleen way, the judgement system with new "strange" rules dosent give her so much add point as that Yuna strangely can get with only her 3-3 combination that many another top skaters can do. Althoug many figure specialist confirmed MAOs high artistic skating skills in her steps, spiral and spins, many journalist dont want to coment about that, only focasing on her jump ability. Maybe they need justfy KIMS strange high score.

Scott Hamilton must have felt like an idiot when the scores came up and nothing below a 5.9. Definitely one of the most ridiculous commentaries I've ever seen. I miss Brian Boitano's commentaries! That guy knew what he was talking about..

Funny, I don't think any of the other countries' commentaries said it was conservatives. They were all saying that he had it wrapped up before it was even over. Ironically, the American judge was one of the four who gave him a 6.0.

Basically Yagudin had PLANNED a second triple axel in combination with a 3 toe...he replaced this with a 3 salchow. He also left out a lutz, and a had a spare jumping pass when he finished. He landed the two quads and a triple axel and then decided that was enough...it is better to go clean with slightly easier content than to risk it and flaw your program! IMO this wasn't conservative, it was heartfelt, emotional and one of the best performances ever.

Quite so. Hamilton was an excellent skater too, though without the advantage of the appearance that Yagudin had. It's a pity Yagudin had that hip injury, leaving the world of skating much too soon. It will take time before someone reaches that quality level again. Plushenko is technically accomplished, but he lacks true individual style.

Scott Hamilton had a conservative Olympic skate in 1984 - Alexei didn't in 2002, not by a long shot! I agree the commentators are really bad. This is the skate that sold me to figure skating. It's unparallelled in Men's figure skating .-)

I loved this freeskate, and was so dissipointed that she changed it before the olympics. This would have been a better way to win with this program. Funny how it is so diffrent from mao's. I love them both. Mao brings out the music's flow and gentle qualities, while Shizuka uses the drama and power.

I noticed that some of her jumps were steady while others were slightly unsteady, but she seemed to go on without giving up to the best of her ability. She was not only one of the best in women´s competition in history, she was THE BEST, ever! Such ease in the jumps, incredible rotation, she was incredible! Which girl was able to show such jumps with such ease? Nobody! If figures hadn´t existed in the past, the rest wouldn´t have had any chance to beat her, I think she would have won nearly all competitions! Midori was a gift for us and for the ISU. That is an interesting point to bring up. I think it depends when the figures were to have been removed. If they were removed a year before the Olympics then I agree, she still wouldnt have had a chance. However if they removed say after 84 she would have been in with a big chance. She would have already established a big reputation. For example in the 84-85 season she beat both Chin and Thomas in fall events, showing how quickly and early she would have rose up without figures.

I agree. Sadly with her placement in figures no way she would have medaled even had that happened. I did the math in my head to make sure and even winning the short and long would not have put her over Thomas, even with Thomas bumped down to 3rd in the short and 5th in the long.

20 years later, I still am amazed by this incredible skater - I loved figure skating before her, but no one is missed more today than Midori Ito - she was one of a kind. Her Calgary performances were impeccible, and I still get chills rewatching them over and over again, even today. Amazing talent. Her triple lutz at the beginning of the long program was even better than any Brian Boitano ever performed!
