Wow this is a song for the ages. It looks like Fuel took a page from the chapter of Bryan Adams. This is the more present day version of "Summer of '69". I agree with you that hydro power is a good energy source but it can't replace totaly the oil. Fuel cells? we have them on school. They get worse over time. Cost ALOT !! What about efficiency? Making hydrogen will get you losing 60-50% Transport not sure. Average bottles now used leak. Fuel cells have efficiency of 50% depending on the current drawn from it. Then fuel cells car also have small battery's. Because you cant draw current directly from a fuel cell. It will destroy the fuel cell. Then to a electric motor 90% eff. You end up with a lower efficiency then patrol cars!

g0m99, I'm aware of my battery replacement plan, & it's nothing compared to the cost of Hydrogen fuel & a replacement fuel cell. Fuel cells use platinum for the catalyst, which deteriorates after 50,000 miles. I assure you the price of platinum is not going down, and replacements will cost well over $5000. The most recent Phosphate-based batteries last upward of 20 years and can be installed without paying a technician. They're already being used & have much higher output than any FC concept.

Batteries are a bad idea. Just look at the maintenance cost of current hybrid vehicles. A new battery every 5 years, at the current cost, that's $5000. Just look at the issue of internal batteries in simple devices like the ipod. A car like the tesla roadster has half a ton worth of batteries, all very susceptible to dying. Fuel cells are the next logical step for cars. It's not a conspiracy, it's just the best option available given the downsides of battery storage.

Let's look at Tesla. Tesla Roadster has a 16 hour recharge time out of a standard socket. Tesla Roadster has half a ton in batteries inside the car. In the Top Gear demonstration of the Tesla, 2 cars ran out of juice within a day of shooting. An internal Battery is bad enough for an ipod, factor that by 4000 and it's even worse for a car. Lithium is even more scarce than Fossil Fuels. There's only about 3 big lithium producers worldwide. Fuel Cells are the next feasible jump.

I posted this video cause i think Fuel cells are cool but, I see a future of electric cars with batteries. With solar panels and small wind mills built in. (and an extention cord) And maybe: "HYDROGEN FUEL-CELL/ELECTROLIZER BATTERY". There are better fuel cells available now. A company called eVionyx developed a fuel cell years ago based on Zinc and Oxygen. The great thing about Zinc is that it is cheap, recyclable, and we have over 1 million years of it out of the ground already. We will never run out of the stuff. Although I am a fan of the hydrogen fuel cell, there is better fuel cell technology available that has more power and energy available for the EV markets.

The poster is exactly correct. The hydrogen fuel cell has one major problem -- hydrogen is not a FUEL. It's just a storage medium, the same as a battery. Just using an electrochemical battery makes complete sense -- no unsafe hydrogen storage/transport infrastructure -- just our existing electrical infrastructure.

Well that's incorrect. Hydrogen combustion (the burning of Hydrogen) produces Nitrogen Oxides, however a fuel cell does NOT burn Hydrogen but uses a chemical conversion process that doesn't produce any by products except Water. The main issue with it is producing Liquid Hydrogen, you can't just drill it up, the energy used to create it will still be coming from Coal/Gas/Oil. I think there are plans to make it via solar ovens but that doesn't produce a massive amount yet.
