There you go. I am a HUGE fan of both bands you mention. Scorpions is one of my favorites and just this month in Guitar World magazine, they had a article with the man himself, Tony Iommi. I am like you, I enjoy ballads. The Scorpions made some incredible ballads! As for the goth bands you mentioned, I am not familiar with any of them but then again, I only listen to a few specific stations (when I can) on Satellite radio. They might be on other stations that I don't listen to much though.

As for me, I also like some hard rock bands like Black Sabbath or Scorpions. Especially slow and melodic compositions considered as ballads. But I haven't heard about bands you enumerated. What's about gothic, can say, that many young people in our country wear "firm gothic" clothes and have an appropriate make-up. My favorite goth band are Elend, Dargaard, Arcana and many more. I myself, only listen to Sirius radio and it's pretty much Hard Attack, Howard Stern, Faction , Octane or Hair Nation. All of these are pretty much in the ROCK category. Like you, I am not a fan of "bubble gum" pop in the least and unlike you, I am sure people listen to goth but I couldn't name a goth singer / group if you yanked my fingernails out. the thing about street fights is, most of them go to the ground and most people are looking to slam you. most of the streets fights i saw go to the ground because there's usually so much agression and anger involved. a lot of techniques probably don't work because your distance is cut off a lot by someone rushing in, so if you're not great a timing a long high kick you probably wont land it. but each fight is different. even in sports like mma and karate.

the thing about fighting is simply this. you use what's most effective at the moment it is necessary. bruce lee is the primary person people quote when they say you shouldn't kick above the waist. but he was mostly talking about a lead a attack and to the fact that it leaves you vulnerable with regard to balance. but enough people have been knocked out with head kicks in various sports from muay thai, karate, tkd and mma. and all martial artist aren't created equal. everyone can't be great

Yeah, kicking high isn't a good strategy in streetfighting in general unless you know you can land it, but you still want to practice it in training. Helps develop your leg muscles and coordination and flexibility. Arts like Capoeira center their strategy around taking the strongest body part(leg) to attack the weakest target(head). But Japanese/Okinawan arts like Karate are more simplified in their approach: whatever gets the job done

i have no idea then, all i know is my kyokushin sensei drilled into me never to straighten any limb, he was also a judo and jujitsu sensei and he drilled that in in all of them. straight limbs are easy to break. perhaps it just looks straight or maybe he or we were taught differently, no idea, twould be interesting to know. let me know if you find out and i shall do the same for you.

I know what you mean. It is much slower than example meageri. But it still doesn't mean that it doesn't work. In fact in some situations the enemy doesnt even have the time to react to it. Example when your opponent is attacking from a distance, he has to attack so fast and determently that he can't stop anymore. Then yoko geri (sokuto?) is the right kick to react. It all depends on the situation. This is only my oppinion.
