Glen or Glenda? - Glen's Battle/Acceptance
Posted by: bumblebert
Video duration: 598 seconds
Global video hits: 27119
In a startingly surreal sequence from Ed Wood's 1953 film "Glen or Glenda?" Glen (Played by Wood himself) battles his other transvestite self as Bela Lugosi overlooks. To cap it all off is the most famous scene in the movie when Dolores Fuller hands Ed her Angora Sweater...Wonderful! Art through sheer incompetence! Parts of it remind me of the work of David Lynch or even Bunuel!!!

In Glengarry Glen Ross, Alec Baldwin plays the character Blake, almost earning Baldwin an Oscar for the role. The salestalk presented is one of the finest ever, allthough sarcastic, it contains the foundations of a well meditated salesmen.

Outstanding song. Glen Campbell was no overnight sensation though, he was already a seasoned veteran on the music scene by the time this was recorded. Prior to this he played in the Wrecking Crew, Hal Blaine's studio band. If you're not familiar with Blaine do a search & check out the unbelievable body of work that Hal and his all star lineup did, you'll be amazed.

I agree--I'm not a big Glen Campbell fan--I prefer Three Dog Night, esp. Chuck Negron, but I also like this song, and Galveston, too.

I love this song...memories of 1968...written by Jimmy Webb who also gave us "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" and "MacArthur's Park"...

and killed the beautifull and innocent people like indians and aboriginals, and millions of bisons and kangaroos just for fun, money and land that isn't theirs.

There's nothing quite as desolate than the mutual feelings of distant love. Glen sings one of the cleanest, purest, love songs of all time. The sun's daily disappearance off the horizon is a reminder to us all that nothing lasts forever, no matter how much we want it to. When you kiss someone good-bye, will it be your last?
By: cryosurgeon. on 31 Dec 08, 02:52:18
I also think this song must have summed up Jim Lovell's feelings & his crew (also their wives & families on Earth) of Apollo 13 never really sure they'd make it back over those long space miles...nothing but the silence of the vacuum of space. Perhaps any astronaut can identify with this song.

This song could easily describe the Australian, American & Canadian pioneers who risked their lives travelling by horse & wagon across the vast Western Plains & into the mountainous areas to bravely settle our remotest parts: Man vs. Nature forever...

Capturing the essence of the romance that is America: "Go West young man," is surely the underlying theme of this song as much as the background strings: the USA's & Canada's progressively more westward expansion, and its reluctant consequences of taking young men from their families & loved ones; leaving them nothing but the rapturous clear colored skies to discover for themselves while yielding the inescapable longing for those left behind. The Romance of moving on.

Definitely one of my all time favourites too. It speaks of a time and place that will never return. Nostalgia? Yes.

I agree, this is one of his best songs...Galveston is also a good one. He actually had some good tunes at this time in his career (I think both of those songs were off the same album...yes, the vinyl thing with a hole in the middle).
