Well, I don't think Armstrong's main thing was technique. His thing was the feel. Roy Eldridge had him beat on range and technique. I think John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Eric Dolphy are all on the same level as Jimi and Bird. Actually. Miles and Dolphy are arguable, but Trane took the music beyond. In fact, I'd say if you're going to choose two, its Coltrane and Jimi. They have more in common as far as driving music (Coltrane's modal screams are more comparable to Jimi's feeding-back and stuff

I am by no means a musical expert, but it seems to me in human history there have been two astonishing and almost inexplicable explosions of musical genius confined within a relatively narrow time and place. One in eighteenth and early nineteenth century German-speaking Europe, and the other in twentieth century USA. And hell yes, smooth jazz is a half-notch above elevator music.

Wow, had no idea there was a video out as this song I believe came out just before MTV did. This one is from the summer of 1981 when virtually every song on the American Top 40 was a good song. There was great soul like this song, great country by Kenny Rogers, Juice Newton, Eddie Rabbitt, great pop by hall and oates and olivia newton john and foreigner.....I dont even bother listening to todays music, I just make my own cds filled with songs from the 80s, the best era ever for music.
