"You can't prove that all of that slavery was by Christians. It was by numerous people in America and elsewhere. You are making no sense at all. " I never said it was done explicetly and only by christians. You are missing my point, and making irrelevent arguments against thigns I did not even specifically say. It is you whom are making no sense, and whom simply want to deny the facts presented.

...CONT ...it was'nt until after the enlightenment corroded christian thought and belief, that the philsoohpies of humanism, secualrism, rationalism, etc, inhereited in large part from greek philosophy but also other sources, challenged these practices. The First anti-slavery organization in the U.S, for example was founded by rationalsts, Thomas Paine{a deist} for example as one of it's founders. after this, slavery and racism was largely justified by referance to the bible/faith.

I never said that every form of slavery was done by christians. I did say that the bible sanctions it, that for allmost 2000 years{particularly after Constantine converted and it became the official faith of rome and thereafter- about 1700 years}the christian world did it and did it in more parts of the world and to more people, for longer periods of time, than has ever been done in recorded history. America did it, but what justified it? OH right...their christian beliefs! It CONT...

You did'nt say "first christian CONVERT", you said "first Christian".

By: shsbball40. on 21 Nov 08, 22:48:32
America did that in general. You can't prove that every form of slavery was by Christians either. Your argument is pointless.
By: shsbball40. on 21 Nov 08, 22:47:09
The first Christian convert was an Ethiopian eunuch that worked for the queen. He was converted by Phillip. This is pretty common knowledge actually. You can stop trying.

...CONT; ...you seem to think that slavery is a white thing or something. Blacks and Jews and Arabs and Chineze, etc, etc, have all done brutal thigns{including slavery}, even if they themselves have been victims of slavery. But this is irrelevent here, the topic is that the Bible{and biblegod} sanctions and even commands slavery, bigotry, cruelty, intolerance, abuse, etc. Thus why for allmost 2000 years Christianity brutalized the world, opressed, and committed some of the worst slavery.
By: Iconoclastithon. on 21 Nov 08, 22:43:01
"haha you don't even know that" That's pretty presumptuous. Of course I knew this. But the Christians use the same scriptures the Jews do, they just added some new ones on top of that{and the Protestant Bible even has less books than the Catholic one; did you know that?}. "the first Christian was a black servant" The First Christian was a Poor Jewish cult leader/reformer, not a "black" servant. He was Palestinian. Likely slighly tanned skin tone. Not 'black". You seem CONT...
By: Iconoclastithon. on 21 Nov 08, 22:39:36
What was done or was not done or today is done or not done by christians is not what the topic is about. It's about the Bible. The Bible sanctions all kinds of atrocities. More than half of it is absurdity, bigotry, and cruelty. "even your athiest buddies had slaves " My Atheist buddies. LoL! Who? By the way I'm not an Atheist. But I am a Rationalist. There has NEVER been mass oppression done specifically in the name of 'Atheism"...EVER! You don't know what you're talking about.
By: shsbball40. on 21 Nov 08, 22:36:04
oh and by the way when people got the commandments from God, they technically weren't christians they were what are now jews haha you don't even know that. Christians came after Christ and the first Christian was a black servant, they sure were against diversity weren't they? haha
By: shsbball40. on 21 Nov 08, 22:34:50
you are the one cherry picking small portions and picking out all of the culturally wrong things from thousands of years ago. thousands of years ago there were numerous wrong things being done by christians and non-christians because of the culture. it was not socially wrong to have slaves then and even your athiest buddies had slaves as well so you cant say it was all christians faults haha you completely contradict yourself. the fact christians made rights for them put them a step up.

...CONT... ...in it, randomly thrown in between a load of absurdities, bigotires,a nd cruelties. Perhaps you should try rationally and objectively examinign it sometime, instead of reading and cherry picking small portions of it to justify the false notion that it a good book{or THE good book/gods word/etc}. There are things in it said to be done by the eexpress command of God that are shocking to all our ideas of morality{to Paraphrase Thomas Paine}. Some nice stuff, but mostly trash!
By: Iconoclastithon. on 21 Nov 08, 22:21:47
...CONT ...in his parables though}. The tenth commandment sanctions slavery as well as sexism, and speaks of women and slaves as 'property" and compares them to both inanimate property as well as ones livestock. The Buble is so chock full of cruelty and eneuqal injustices as sanctioned by,commanded by, and condoned by the biblesgod and god-man that it is truly amazing it has not been as widely condemned as somethibng like Hitlers "Mein Kampf". There are few flowery/nice things CONT..

If you have been to Baylor homecoming before you would know that they use the large ropes to help set up the stage and signs all over campus for the bonfire concert. This happened 2 days after homecoming weekend and they saw the rope laying out on campus where it had been left and used it. And it was at Brooks college and the students just wanted to burn the boxes, you cant tell me no other college students have ever gone and made a fire for the heck of it before.
By: Iconoclastithon. on 21 Nov 08, 22:17:45
I have read the bible, I was christian for 25 years. "2 verses later the Israelites (God's people) were the first people to create slave rights idiot" Slave rights? How about just abolishing it? So much for "God inspired" and "Gods people". There is also much more in the bible where Yahweh sanctions, commands, and condones Slavery{even Jesus tacitly condones it and does not once remark on it or condemn it even though in his time it was widespread, he does use it positively in CONT...

maybe if you went to a college like baylor you would learn how to spell privileged haha. they aren't trying to save face, cnn just blew this way out of proportion before they knew the facts.
By: shsbball40. on 21 Nov 08, 22:13:39
really? the tenth commandment sanctions slavery? how about 2 verses later the Israelites (God's people) were the first people to create slave rights idiot. oh and the first christian convert was black and a servant so shut up about the bible being racist. you should read it yourself, maybe you would actually learn something instead of making up stuff. This was not caused by religion and it didnt even have anything to do with a noose or Obama signs if you would pay attention.
By: lizj8902. on 18 Nov 08, 22:54:27
Availability Heuristic!!! research 101. you educated people should know that this knocks the validity of an argument. CNN was wrong to report this before they looked into what really happened they misconstrued stories and slandered Baylor's name biased on incomplete facts. Yes there was a fire that nightbut the signs were found to be cardboard boxes Yes there was a rope in the treewas it actually a noose? NO! Some students who live on campus were just climbing trees and swinging in them
By: artemis2085. on 18 Nov 08, 16:17:34
Baylor is a school filled with over privilaged brats and this is a prime example of how a lot of them are. Now the university is trying to save face by covering this up. Bullshit...
By: Flatfoot2282. on 18 Nov 08, 15:03:39
Bored students just happen to find a rope laying around and decide to build a make shift rope swing, on the very night a black was elected president. Another group decide they must burn extra computer boxes, what were all the dumpsters really full? The school song should be changed from That Good Old Baylor Line to That Good Old Republican Spin The explanation from the school president is laughable; it dilutes the Baptist faith from one of Christian principle to a mere political pawn.

Atheist view? Like all atheists think a like? You are a little less tolerant than you think.
By: Creat1veChem1st. on 16 Nov 08, 22:55:15
Innocent until proven guilty?! The story about the noose AND the Obama signs were proven to be FALSE! The "signs" were found to be boxes. The "noose" was a rope swing, as per the school paper. (Google baylor lariat noose Nov 13). I am a Baylor professor of multi-ethnicity (I am of Caucasian & South Asian descent) & find the campus to be diverse, tolerant & caring. CNN et al, lets not jump to conclusions until ALL the facts are revealed. - Dr. Mark (Devan) Jonklaas

do i truly think the majority of texans want racist asshole leaders? the truth is in the pudding seecritagent. the truth is in the pudding. to enlighten you, i'm not the only one talking about your state. many others see your politics ladened with ignorance, intolerence and hate. there are many, many examples of this ignorance & not one state official ever condemns it. they're all so busy trying to get elected, they rather stay mum lest they lose the rather large bigot vote.
