True. Some bands these days are... horrid live, but I like that Deas Vail can stay right in tune. It shows that they work hard on perfecting their music instead of using mere machines to fix their mistakes. And not many bands these days can have this sort of peaceful quality, live or recorded.

Wow. They are really good live. And the vocalist has a beautiful voice. You don't get that a whole lot from bands these days who rely too much on yelling and screaming and growling. Not that I have anything against it, but Deas Vail has a very melodic and polished quality that you don't hear very often.

I've been listening to mew for a lot longer than these guys, but deas vail is the better band, though both are amazing. And that one guitar riff from this song that sounds like circuitry of the wolf is completely coincidental. believe me with as much music as there is, every chord progression has already been used by somebody and is bound to be used again.

The ligature can dampen the vibration, making it darker or more dead with the Rovner style ligs, and can brighten the tone with a metal, maybe copper metal lig or by design. They can change the color a bit but are more for fine tuning. I have 2 of the Ishimori Ligs for my Crescent Tenor, and the Gold plate centers the sound while the Copper spreads it more and is a little brighter - same design, just different metals.

Hey saxboy thanks, I didn't really think about that. Sounds like I need to sit down and actually make a plan. wow! When I first picked up the sax I had an idea about the depth of what i was taking on but I didnt realise it was this deep. I don't understand how the ligature could make that much of a difference though, I thought the mouth piece and reed are what really counts.

Here you touch on that concept of desired end product in your sound. The concept of process would be trying out a single item that moves you in the direction of your goal sound; get used to it for a few months, then see about another little change to move you closer. Maybe start with a mouthpiece or reed change. Then try ligs a few months later. Do it in pieces and let each change be a spaced change so you can find the sound on that item! gvSAXBOY

U cant go far wrong with a selmer C* or Otto link tone edge(I use a 7 tone edge on my alto). try new reeds too, its supprising what a diffrence the right reed can do for your overall sound. Also a rovner or BG lig will darken and smoothen out your sound. But really you need to go down to your loacal music store and try a range of mouth pieces for yourself to see what works for you - there is no ultimate smooth setup, its all down to the player

Altissimo can be approached a number of ways. Often they will be used when the solo is more aggressive, and that will include some growl too. Then you have the fact that playing really high is not easy. Overall, I can play them more clean or more growl sounding, and it depends on the vibe of the solo within the track as to the sound a player might choose. gvSAXBOY

The best picture I have is that of a surfer. He takes a wave and rides the best he can based on where ever it takes him. He has ideas he might want to try on this particular ride, but is really at the mercy of the wave. His success will look as if he owned that wave but the truth is, he was just making the most he could out of the ride. Solo's are the very same thing for me. Most of what happens is inspired by the environment of that moment.

It depends on a few things; how you sound now and the goal sound you have for the future or ideal you. The Studio was way too bright for me and so was any of the other Guardala's. I was coming from a Link and wanted a more modern sound. Had played a Duckoff for a few years and kinda killed it. I had heard that the Guardala was a perfected Duckoff at the time, and was looking to replace and maybe improve upon that sound with a more modern direction. I understand that you have a custom Guardala similar to the cresent model and another Guardaka that a baffle was removed from by a mojo? Anyways I play an link 7* on tenor and am currently trying out a guardala studio 7* gold plated. Is it a benefit to my sound as a developing player to stick with the link? God bless

Hey Cesarin - First a big thanks for watching and posting!! You ask great questions. A teacher would best be able to coach your solo playing. Main thing is - you can't play fast in a solo if you haven't practiced fast and clean. The building blocks are the changes and learning the scales and chords, smooth and fast. Patterns for Jazz is a good start. Then listen to lots of great solo playing for ideas on how to use that information. Good luck and much success, gvSAXBOY

I would say Dave needs a little instruction too, and keep the snow machines off Vail Pass unless the riders have avy knowledge, most of them just know how to make noise and start slides on top of skiers. That snow is deep, ski faster...nice video
