Of course you don't even think to take height into consideration. Because of Alcindor towering over many of the players he played against, and because he had a ridiculous unblockable shot, the skyhook, nobody could stop him. Yet you notice that Walton had more rebounds and was a much, much, much better passer. Walton was also a much, much better shooter than Alcindor, having a better FT% and FG% than Alcindor. I will repeat again, maybe you didn't read it. None were better than Maravich. 44 PPG.

You are cherry picking quite a few stats. You say Russell was not great offensively, as if that's a flaw for him. You do realize that, during that time, centers were not supposed to score, correct? In fact, the only reason Chamberlain scored as much as he did was because he was much taller than everyone else, and was therefore unstoppable. Russell was a great passer for a center during that time, and he was never meant to score a lot.

Except Jordan had no flaws, whereas Russell did. Russell was not very good offensively, at least not at an all time great level like Jordan. Jordan was THE best perimeter scorer ever and one of the best perimeter defenders ever as well. Jordan was a great rebounder for his position, and the same can be said about his passing. He dominated the game night in and night out and no his teams were certainly not as stacked as Russell's either. What stats am I cherry picking by the way?

You can't be serious, Lew Alcindor isn't top 2? There has never been a more dominant college player then Lew Alcindor. Bill Walton: 20.3 ppg, 15.7 RPG, 3.6 APG Kareem: 26 PPG, 15.5 RPG Bruins had a 88-2 record with Kareem as their star, they won the national championship all 3years he was there, he was 2 time player of the year and first ever naismith award winner. Kareem was so dominant that they outlawed the dunk in college basketball in hopes of stopping him, but to no avail.

I attribute Jordan to what he was. A great shooter and very flashy. So, because most people would say that Jordan if I asked them who's the greatest, that makes him the greatest? You could say the same for Nolan Ryan or Babe Ruth in baseball, neither of which are true. Russell was a ridiculous defender, rebounder, and shotblocker, amongst other things. You're saying Jordan's team wasn't stacked? I've already gone through this. Jordan certainly had flaws, you just choose to cherry pick the stats.

Oh please. Alcindor was most certainly not better than Walton, and Alcindor doesn't even make the top two. How can you possibly say Walton and Alcindor were better than Pete Maravich?

Wow, that's all you attribute Jordan to? If you ask most people, they will tell you that Jordan is the GOAT and certainly better then Russell. Not to take anything away from Russell, but statistically he didn't dominate the game enough to be in that conversation. Of course the 11 championships are amazing but at the same time, his team was stacked with hall of famers. Michael Jordan did not have a weakness in his game, one of the best perimeter defenders ever, THE best perimeter scorer. etc.

It's not very surprising for a guy like Bill Russell to dominate the paint when there's no such rule as the 3 second violation down in the paint. There were so many cases in today's NBA game where an easy penetration was simply let in because of that rule.

You claim that no one drives against Russell because he will block your shots any how, but you do realize that players in that era weren't as nearly as athletic compared to those who played in the jordan era. On top of that, some of the rules were different.

What are you talking about? You're all over the plcae. First of all, what does the time period have to do with anything? You do realize that Russell played in the same era as another extremely dominant center played in, correct? And Russell completely and utterly dominated him. 19 of the "50 Greatest NBA Players of All-Time" played in Russell's era, and he dominated every one of them. Being a prolific scorer and flashy certainly doesn't make you the greatest. Sorry.

Once again, how? Certain people, such as Joe Dumars, dominated Michael Jordan. Nobody dominated Bill Russell. He had a ridiculously insane hunger for the ball, and you just didn't drive against him. You DID NOT drive against Bill Russell. He would block your shot, rebound it, and then drive the full length of the court and bank it in. God knows how many times he did that. Russell revolutionized the game in a way that no one else ever has. Definetly better and more dominant than Jordan.

How? You obviously know nothing of basketball if you think those things aren't true. When he was healthy, Bill Walton was one of the three most dominant centers I have ever seen play the game. He dominated in college, and even in his injury-laden NBA career, he still managed to dominate when he was healthy.

No it's not. Why is it bullshit? Jordan was a premier scorer and the flashiest player of his time, but those things don't make you the greatest of all-time. Bill Russell completely dominated the game of basketball and transformed the game in more ways than Jordan ever did, or could for that matter. Jordan was an amazingly athletic player, but Bill Russell was an imposing force, even to Wilt Chamberlain, and was tiny for a center. Yet he still managed to utterly own the game of basketball.
