If you're smart about it, it's pretty safe and I must agree it's mighty tasty! Southern food is indeed delicious, my favorite is Chicken Fried Steak. Signed, some Canadian dude.

This is why Southerners make fun of "Yankees". It takes 2 Fully clothed firemen with helmets to cook a deep fried turkey? I've seen it done by a 12 year old kid with one arm wearing shorts, a tank top, and flip flops do the same thing...and it was damn tasty if I might add.

The fire department didn't make it, the UL did (underwriters laboratories). The UL is a non-profit privately owned organization.

By: arcdude7734. on 27 Nov 08, 16:48:31
Oh yeah, one more thing. Do NOT push the pot over while the oil is hot. In fact, keep everyone away from the pot until it has cooled. What an idiot!!
By: arcdude7734. on 27 Nov 08, 16:45:31
Here is how to do it correctly. First, put the raw turkey in the pot and fill with water until it is 2 inches over the turkey. Then take the turkey out and note the water level. Now dry out both the turkey and the pot. Prepare the turkey by rubbing with spices and injecting with marinade. Let it dry. Fill the pot with oil to the same level as the water was without the turkey. Heat to 325 F. SLOWLY lower the turkey into the hot oil. Keep the temp steady. Cook for 3 minutes per pound of turkey.

Yes, deep frying a turkey can be very dangerous--if you are a complete idiot!! "It looks like our partially frozen turkey is ready". NO it is not. It must be completely thawed and dry before dropping it in hot oil. This video should have spent more time showing how to do it correctly and safely, not just to scare people away from trying it. I have cooked many turkeys in my time and I have done it many different ways. Frying is by far the tastiest.

mmm some fish with a little ship on the side!
By: 6StringedManiac. on 27 Nov 08, 10:04:12
How can you talk about turkey like that?! lol. This is Thanksgiving, not a fucking democracy! And who the fuck eats fish and SHIPS! lol.
By: Hatsukori. on 27 Nov 08, 06:55:31
I thought that it'd taste weird before I tried it, but if you do it right, they are absolutely delicious. I love turkey in the oven and I adore fried turkey, but the spices make all the difference in the world.

I may be in the minority here, but I tasted deep fried turkey once and I really didn't think it was any better. My roast turkey is never dry.

Do you F'n idiots understand thatit is a dramatization, and to show you how NOT to do this. It's called a "SAFETY VIDEO" you idiots!
By: tehsheik. on 24 Nov 08, 23:31:36
Its def overfilled, look at the oil level in the "b roll" part...Also, the bird is supposed to be fully thawed. On top of it all, they basically drop the bird in there...you have to lower it very slowly
By: KevinDC5. on 24 Nov 08, 19:21:01
MMMMMmm...WHAT A TASTY DEATH!!!

A Turkey Deep Fryer made me the man I am today.
By: mrjost55. on 23 Nov 08, 06:10:24
The reason they fucked up is b/c it was partially frozen, like he said in the beginning, and it was possible overfilled with oil. I'm gonna attemp this for the first time next week.
By: mrjost55. on 23 Nov 08, 06:05:34
I heard it's nothing like fries. I'm gonna try to deep fry one this year.
By: LatchesPH. on 22 Nov 08, 18:17:45
OMG... Fry a turkey in oil... PUKE! I mean, a turkey is already disgusting, well not disgusting, but tasteless... so fried in oil it must taste like some kind of fish & ships but worst... But anyway people like things which taste like nothing...
By: israfel070. on 21 Nov 08, 05:21:48
Ok, this is staged in such a way that you'd have to be a retard to pull it off. You don't fill a fryer to the brim with oil before sticking in a bird. Just like you don't fill your bathtub to the brim before climbing in.
